Logo design as art?

Logos sell stuff, promote companies and create brands but we like to think of them as standalone art in their own right. Little design creations that encapsulate business ethos and communicate goals and purpose. To that end we created Logopalooza: The Art of Brand & Logos.

What Are Logos?

The word logo is an abbreviation of logotype which is itself derived from ancient Greek: logos meaning “word” and typos which translates to “imprint”. In contemporary terms a logo is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used in branding by commercial enterprises, organizations and individuals to promote instant public recognition of corporate identity, products or services. Logos can be purely graphic – known as symbols or icons – or composed of a stylized version of the organization – known as a logotype or wordmark.

The Art & Design

Logo design isn’t just something we do around our studio, but our personal ethos and something we’ve been passionate about for more than two decades. To celebrate that passion, we occasionally release books & manuals that are full of logo examples, tips and observations. Naturally, they needed their own brand name – Logopalooza – and the first two editions of Logopalooza have been downloaded a few hundred thousand times apiece since their release. Volume 3 is currently shipping.
